Shabbat Shalom from Russia!
Shabbat Shalom from Moscow!
by Darcy Dalton and Amy Steiner, Trip Co-chairs
We are excited to announce that Park Avenue Synagogue is planning a major congregational trip to Israel in December 2018. Several hundred travelers will celebrate Israel at 70 and PAS at 136! The trip will offer multiple tracks tailored to all generations and to a variety of interests with itineraries for first-time visitors to Israel and for travelers who have been there many times. For example:
Families with young children will explore Israel in a hands-on, eye-opening way, including floating in the Dead Sea, visiting the Kotel, and going on an archaeological dig.
Families with Bnei Mitzvah-age children will share the joy of reaching this milestone in Israel, engage with Israeli students and Lone Soldiers, climb Masada, and participate in a group Bar/Bat Mitzvah service and celebration.
Teens, college students, and young adults will have unparalleled experiences such as hands-on social action projects, visits to Israeli technology companies, deep conversations about security, and authentic interactions with Israeli and Arab peers.
Adults interested in arts, culture, food, and wine will delight in active exploration of visual arts and music, tours of Israel’s wine-growing region, meetings with farmers, and opportunities to cook with renowned chefs.
Adults interested in history and geo-politics will enjoy an immersive, in-depth exploration of Jews in Israel, conversations with leading Israeli scholars about seminal moments in history, and discussions about the current political landscape.
No matter which track you choose, there will be opportunities to engage with Israelis, perform mitzvot, build friendships with PAS clergy and families, and reinforce our community’s commitment to Israel. We especially look forward to celebrating Shabbat together in Jerusalem!
If you are asking yourself, “Is this trip for me?” the answer is, “Yes!” Mark your calendar for December 2018, and stay tuned for details coming in the fall about the different tracks and about how to register.
At the end of our Seder celebrations we exclaim, L’shanah ha-ba’ah b’yerushalayim! Next year in Jerusalem!
This year, we can make that wish come true. We hope that you will join us on this fantastic journey!
