Over 18 weeks, you will be introduced to Jewish history, culture, and values. With the class,, you will study the fundamentals of Jewish history, explore the rituals of a lived-Jewish life, and learn practical skills with guidance from our clergy. You will have the opportunity not only to explore your own Jewish journey but also to connect with a community through a shared experience of spiritual learning. What is Pathways?
Pathways is Park Avenue Synagogue’s “Introduction to Judaism” class designed to provide fundamental knowledge, practical skills, and clarifying insights into Jewish life. Over 18 weeks, the class explores the past, present, and future of Judaism with insight from our clergy.
What will I experience during Pathways?
Immerse yourself in our multidisciplinary curriculum that includes educational coursework and experiences that deepen understanding of a Jewish identity. Spend time with classmatesexploring Jewish landmarks in New York City, share ritual moments like Shabbat and holidays, meet lay leaders from our community, learn about the synagogue campus and offerings, and develop friendships and connections among like-minded individuals on their journey of Jewish identity.
Specifically, what will be taught?
The course covers history, holidays, practices, texts, and values of a lived-Jewish life. Topics include Torah study, prayer, rabbinic debate and revolution, and Jews + food.
Do I have to be a PAS member?
This class is offered to members and non-members and has no requirement of conversion.
Is there a hybird or remote option?
No, because part of the experience of taking the course is to build relationships with other students and explore the community of Park Avenue Synagogue together. We learn from each other, and being together helps deepen the connection to Jewish life.
When does the class meet?
Weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30–8:30 pm. Specific dates are provided with the sign-up link.
