Rabbi Cosgrove’s Vatican Visit
This week Rabbi Cosgrove had the honor of participating in a meeting of the Abrahamic Faiths Initiative.
The theme of Park Avenue Synagogue’s annual Shabbaton on the last weekend of January was “Politics, Policy and US-Israel Relations: Jews in the American Public Sphere.” Over Shabbat we heard Ambassador Dennis Ross, who was often in the room at key moments in US and Israeli diplomatic history, and Jeffrey Goldberg, journalist and author, who has become at times the de facto sounding board for US administrations. The youngest members of the community and their families enjoyed “Tot Shabbaton” at an early Kabbalat Shabbat with our Guest Artist, composer and musician Dan Nichols. After Ambassador Ross spoke on Friday evening, Dan gave a wonderful performance which appealed to all, especially the many who had fond memories of him from summer camp. Everyone also enjoyed William Greenberg black-and-white cookies.
Kudos to the Shabbaton Committee: Paula Gendel, Fred Kastenbaum, Sam Lehr, and Aaron Stern, and to everyone involved in the planning and execution of a memorable weekend. Special thanks to Aaron Stern for contributing to this report.
