In the Jewish consciousness, we are aware of personal losses on a local scale, and of a collective obligation to remember, to mourn together. Whether thinking of someone who has departed naturally after a long and full life, or those who perished in a shared tragedy like the Shoah, we turn to music at these times. We harness the powers of music to soothe, to feel grief intensely, and to recall past times and people with lasting affection.
This album takes you on a journey through loss and grief, with the traditional Jewish responses of saying Kaddish, the Memorial Prayer, and large-scale musical works exploring the nature of death and mourning, loss, and triumph.
Whenever you remember, whoever you remember, we hope this music brings you comfort in grief, and joy at what has been.
