The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York Celebrate Israel Parade is unquestionably the world’s largest expression of solidarity with the Jewish state, and this year, it will mark Israel’s 75th birthday under the theme: Israel @ 75: Renewing the Hope

ISRAEL AT 75 CONCERT

Cantor Schwartz will host an evening celebrating the rich fabric of the Israeli people and their music. This momentous event will feature special guests Bat Ella, Cantor Chaim Dovid Berson, Gili Yalo, and Michael Feigenbaum, and will include Cantor Mira Davis, all accompanied by an augmented PAS Ensemble directed by David Enlow. The concert incorporates many new arrangements and an original work by the eminent Israeli-American composer Oran Eldor. A reception with Israeli-themed treats will follow.

ISRAEL AT 75 LEGACY MURAL PROJECT

The Israeli Declaration of Independence was proclaimed on May 14, 1948, by David Ben-Gurion, the soon-to-be first Prime Minister of Israel, in a gathering at the Tel Aviv Museum Hall. We will celebrate Israel at 75 by recreating the spirit of this proclamation with a three-part mural that will hang in the sanctuary as the backdrop for our summer Israeli music concert. Everyone is invited to contribute to this project through art workshops this spring.

THEODOR HERZL: THE CHARISMATIC LEADER

How did Theodor Herzl, a cosmopolitan and assimilated European Jew, become the leader of the Zionist movement? Author and historian Penslar and Rabbi Cosgrove explore Herzl’s path to Zionist leader and how his short life created his enduring legacy. This program is in partnership with Jewish Lives and Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning.

ISRAEL 75TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

Families are invited to join Park Avenue Synagogue, Central Synagogue, and the 92nd Street Y in celebrating Israel's 75th year of independence with Israeli themed games, crafts, music and prizes, and food from local Israeli restaurants.
Tickets are $18 per family and includes access to all activities with lunch.
RESPONDING TO ISRAEL'S NEW REALITY

With a new Israeli government in place that centers ultra-orthodox and -nationalist coalition partners, how can Israelis and diaspora Jews outside of Israel respond constructively to this government’s problematic policies and its potential threat to democracy? How can more liberal Zionists, leverage ourselves and our support to protect Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, especially now when preparing to celebrate Israel’s 75th birthday?

The second session of our new initiative designed for seniors 70-plus to build community at PAS will feature lunch, schmoozing, and discussion with our Shlicha, Michal Abramoff, in celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut. Light lunch will be provided.
