Purim Spiel 5786 Hamantaschen: Three Tales from the Megilah

Mon / Mar 2 / 6:30 pm / 87th Street and Online

We revisit the story of Purim, as told in the Megilah, in a trio of tales:

  • The tale of a disco queen who escapes the hustle of palace life on the dance floor, hoping to save her people with style, sequins, and soul.
  • The tale of a street kid who finds her voice when she is transformed into a royal sensation fit for the king's court.
  • The tale of an existentially conflicted queen in a "to be, or not to be" Shakespearean drama that sounds much like the 1960s as the 1690s.

Don a costume, grab a grogger, and get transported across the pond with this dramatic trio of tales.

Bring a bag of rice or lentils to the Purim Spiel, shake it like a grogger, then donate it to fulfill the mitzvah of giving to those in need this Purim!

Purim Mitzvot

On Purim, it is a mitzvah to give to those in need (matanot la’evyonim). Consider donating to the New York Common Pantry, which works to reduce hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency, and Darca Schools, which advocates for equal educational opportunities for youth in Israel’s underserved communities.
