A service with repetition of the Amidah and annual cycle Torah reading, all in Hebrew, at a pace that is comfortable for experienced daveners, and a Kiddush afterwards.
Shaharit and Parashat HaShavua / Sat / 9:00 am / PAS@87th
Introductory psalms and the morning service, a light Kiddush, and an engaging study of the morning’s Torah portion, ending in time to join the community in the Sanctuary for the Torah service.

A musically uplifting morning service, Torah reading, sermon, and musaf. Schmooze afterward at Kiddush.

ALTERNATIVE SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
Descriptions of ongoing Shabbat worship and program opportunities can be found below. In addition to our ongoing programs, many one-time youth, educational, and music opportunities take place during Shabbat. Check the calendar for specific dates and times and additional details for all services and programs.
Shabbat Opportunities
Erev Shabbat
KABBALAT SHABBAT AND DINNERS FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN
Families with children ages newborn to pre-K are invited to join our clergy for a family friendly service, followed immediately by a child-friendly buffet dinner and short program. Registration is required. Space is limited.
CONGREGATIONAL SCHOOL KABBALAT SHABBAT FRIDAY EVENING EXPERIENCES
Gather for Kabbalat Shabbat followed by festive dinner (or festive dinner followed by Kabbalat Shabbat). Registration required.
SHABBAT DINNER SERIES: TEEN EDITION
Teens will be seated together at the Shabbat Dinner Series and will also have teen-only Friday evening events.
ROCK KABBALAT SHABBAT
Kabbalat Shabbat will rock with the participation of the Teen Rock Band.
RAMAH MINYAN
Any and all young people are invited to join Camp Ramah alumni from all over the city in prayer and festivities. Join us for a spirit-filled service followed by drinks.
ADULT LEARNING SHABBAT DINNER SERIES
Join together in prayer, share a meal as a community, and learn from noted scholars on topics of social, intellectual, and spiritual interest. Registration is required by the Monday before the dinner. Space is limited.
Shabbat Morning
TOT TEFILLAH: YOUNG FAMILY SHABBAT MORNING SERVICES
Services include Shabbat songs, dancing, a story, and other activities and end with Kiddush and a light snack before joining in the community Kiddush that follows services in the Sanctuary.
PAS YOUTH CHOIR
Open to learners age 6 and up who love to sing, the PAS Youth Choir rehearses on Saturdays after Congregational School Shabbat Experience programming (12:05–12:35 pm) and performs throughout the year at Shabbat services, Vicki K. Wimpfheimer Mitzvah Day, Zimriyah, and more!
CONGREGATIONAL SCHOOL SHABBAT EXPERIENCES
- Gan, Alef and Bet (K–2) Family Shabbat Experiences
Parents and children will come together in song, prayer and learning at a family-oriented service. - Gimel and Dalet (Grades 3 & 4) Family Shabbat Experiences
Families will join the community Shabbat service in the Sanctuary for and then leave together for a family learning session. - Hey and Vav (Grades 5 & 6) Family Shabbat Experiences
Families will join the community Shabbat service in the Sanctuary for the beginning of the Torah service and then leave together for a family learning session.
WINDOW ON ISRAEL
Facilitated by Rabbi Neil Zuckerman and featuring special guests, hear perceptive presentations and join in dynamic discussion of critical issues concerning Israel.
HAVURAH
The Havurah is a lay-led, child-friendly Shabbat morning service open to individuals and families of all ages who want an intimate and informal prayer experience. We invite people of all skill levels to participate by leading a part of the service, reading Torah or Haftarah or by facilitating a Torah discussion.

After Kiddush, join us to learn from noted scholars on topics of social, intellectual, and spiritual interest.
Late Afternoon
HAVDALAH FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN
Havdalah (Hebrew for “distinction”) is the ritual that separates Shabbat from the rest of the week. Led by members of the clergy, we end Shabbat with a crafts project or other activity, a short service, and a snack.
VAV BOOK CLUB
Vav (Grade 6) learners and their parents are invited to join Rabbi Cosgrove for two book discussions each year.
PARENT/TEEN SHABBAT STUDY WITH RABBI COSGROVE
Post-Bnei Mitzvah learners and their parents are invited to meet at Rabbi Cosgrove’s apartment for a discussion, schmoozing, snacks, and Shabbat fun!
