The psalmist's words ring out from ancient times, telling us to sing a new song. This is one of the reasons we create new settings of familiar texts: It enables us to hear the prayer in a new way, to consider different aspects of it. The psalm goes on to command not just the people of Israel, but kol ha'aretz - the whole world and all its creations - to join in singing. At PAS, we often work with Israeli musicians who have a cosmopolitan musical life, and Ofer Bashan, the composer of this setting, has travelled the world and lived for several years in Nigeria. Worship traditions from around the world are present in this piece. We hope that you join in a new song and wish you a Shabbat shalom.
