Of the many kinds of prayer, it might seem like Avinu Malkeinu Z’khor is inward-looking: “Put an end to all plague and violence, famine and captivity . . .” Yet the key is found at the end of the prayer – we ask these things not only for ourselves and those near to us, but for all our brothers and sisters, whether known to us or in distant lands. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom!
