In her 90s but very young-spirited, Mrs. Ruthie Malavsky is the daughter of legendary cantor Samuel Malavsky (1894–1985), who was known for his voice and popular liturgical compositions. In contrast to his times, he insisted that his daughters sing with him at the synagogue and would not take cantorial jobs that would not support his viewpoint on women's rights. Cantor Azi Schwartz spoke with Ruthie, who found us through our Livestream during the height of the pandemic. In celebration of this new friendship, he and Cantor Rachel Brook sang one of her father’s most beloved compositions on Rosh Hashanah.
