ASL Workshop: Learn the Basics!

Before Friday evening services that feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, learn about its fundamentals, including how it is structured, how we use our faces and bodies in addition to our hands to communicate in ASL, and come away with some basic phrases that can be used in synagogue that evening.  

Professor Carole Moskowitz, on the faculty at New York University’s Steinhardt School,  has been teaching ASL for over 20 years.

Recharge your spirit with a lively musical, family-friendly service. Come for the community, stay for the oneg. This service will feature American Sign Language interpretation as part of our JDAIM programming. 

Our interpreters will be Bram Weiser and Mark Weissglass. 

Advancing Disability Rights: Beit Issie Shapiro

Ahmir Lerner, executive director of the Israeli nonprofit Beit Issie Shapiro, will be in dialogue with Rabbi Zuckerman during his Contemporary Jewish Thought class. Beit Issie Shapiro's mission is to create a more inclusive society by advancing opportunities and rights for people with disabilities, impacting over 500,000 lives in more than 30 countries each year, including innovating cutting-edge technologies and treatments, providing professional training, and advocating for social change.
