Israel at 70: How Did We Get Here and Where Are We Going?
Fri-Sat | Jan 26-27

Speaker: Rabbi Daniel Gordis
Musical Guests: We Are The Northern Lights

This year’s Shabbaton is the official launch of our yearlong theme – Telling Israel’s Story. Although Israel is a 70 years young as a state, its stories of its statehood began more than 70 years ago. Join us as we paint the picture of Israel’s past and future; its internal and external troubles; its struggles and its triumphs through history and personal stories.

Dr. Daniel Gordis is Senior Vice President and the Koret Distinguished Fellow at Shalem College. The author of more than ten books, Gordis is a regular columnist for both the Jerusalem Post and for Bloomberg View. Gordis’ newest book is a history of the State of Israel entitled Israel: A Concise History of a Nation Reborn, which received the 2016 National Jewish Book Award as “Book of the Year.” Dr. Gordis was the founding dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles.

Hadar Orshalimy and Sheldon Low make up the indie folk-pop duo We Are the Northern Lights. Hadar is a singer/songwriter who regularly leads services as a soloist at temples and synagogues.
