Morning minyan and Bar Mitzvah - Hoshana Rabbah

October 20, 2019 - 10:00 am

The last day of Sukkot, Hoshana Rabbah (“The Great Supplication”),  is considered the last of the Days of Judgment which began on Rosh Hashanah. According to the Zohar, while the judgment for the new year is sealed on Yom Kippur, it is not “delivered” until Hoshana Rabbah; until then, one can still alter one’s decree for the new year. Consequently, the traditional greeting on Hoshana Rabbah is pitka tova, or in Yiddish, a guten kvitel, "A good note" – a wish that the final verdict will be positive.
