Dr. Joy Ladin and Rabbi Cosgrove
Dr. Joy Ladin is not only an award-winning educator, scholar, and poet, she also is the first openly transgender professor at Yeshiva University. Since coming out as the university’s first openly transgender employee in 2008, she has become a nationally recognized speaker on transgender issues. In celebration of Pride Month, Dr. Ladin and Rabbi Cosgrove will discuss gender, faith, and how Jewish communities can affirm diverse identities. The event is sponsored by both the Adult Ed department and Inclusion committee as part of the Pride Month celebration. A celebrated poet, Dr. Ladin has a unique approach to tackling questions of gender in the Hebrew Bible.
Joy Ladin, the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution, holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Princeton University. She has been featured on National Public Radio numerous times with her most notable episode “On Being with Krista Tippet” being rebroadcasted three times. Is the author of nine books of poetry and has an upcoming collection, Shekhinah Speaks in 2022.
