Vicki K. Wimpfheimer Mitzvah Day 2011

On November 20, almost 400 adults and children participated in our annual Vicki K. Wimpfheimer Mitzvah Day. From activities in the ECC to two screenings of the Oscar-winning documentary Strangers No More, to packing food, clothes and medicines on the Lower Level, Mitzvah Day was a great success.

Here are some of our achievements:
• 750 Thanksgiving bags for our Food Pantry clients
• 500 warm winter hats and socks for our Food Pantry clients
• 550 lunches & 350 toiletry bags for homeless men in our neighborhood
• 250 gift bags to brighten the holidays for local seniors
• 125 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary school children in Ethiopia
• 100 medical kits to help Haitians respond to the deadly cholera outbreak
• 50 care packages for Jewish American soldiers serving abroad
• 39 pints of blood donated
• 21 organ donation forms completed
• 12 boxes of clothing and toiletries for homeless men
• 12 cheeks swabbed for bone marrow donation
• 2 large duffel bags filled with much needed medicines for the Cuban community – to be delivered on our congregational trip in January
• $2000 collected in our Community Tzedakah Box
